M.J. Smith & Associates principal rated 22 out of America’s 100 best independent financial advisors
September 17, 2007— Mark Smith, founder of M.J. Smith and Associates of Denver, was named one of the top independent financial advisors in America by Barron’s. Of the magazine’s top 100, Smith ranked number one in Colorado and number 22 in the U.S.
The rating was part of the Wall Street publication’s inaugural selection of the nation’s top 100 independent financial advisors. According to Barron’s, independent financial advisors are gaining prominence. Different from traditional brokers who charge a commission for each transaction, independent advisors manage investments for a flat fee and frequently provide clients with financial planning services, not just stocks and bonds. “Our clients’ best interests are our only objective,” said Smith. “At M.J. Smith & Associates, our compensation is directly aligned with the value of our clients’ portfolios.”
The rankings are based on each advisor’s assets under management, revenues and profits generated, and quality of service. Regulatory records were reviewed to ensure the advisors selected had a clean slate. “We are dedicated to complying fully with the letter and spirit of the laws, rules and ethical principals that govern us,” Smith said.
Smith has been the top-ranked national advisor for Raymond James Financial Services, Inc., for the past three years. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, a Personal Financial Planning Specialist, a Certified Investment Management Analyst, and a Certified Public Accountant. Smith and his firm have also been recognized by Wealth Manager, Financial Planning, Financial Advisor, and Boomer magazines and by The Winner’s Circle, an independent advocacy organization, as one of the top wealth management firms in the U.S.
“As a firm, we are honored to receive this recognition,” said Smith, whose firm manages more than $532 million in assets for clients nationwide. “Helping our individual and corporate clients develop sound investment strategies to achieve their personal or business goals is a privilege for us,” he said.
